April 19, 2015

Broke my humerus. Spiral fractures aren't very funny but life after you have one is. The soft cast covers my bent arm from shoulder to past the elbow. It's my right arm of  course, and since I'm right handed that makes doing the simplest of things ridiculously difficult. Picking up dropped jelly beans ( my comfort food that ended up in the trash) with my foot is a skill newly acquired.  Texting with only my left thumb is doable but I might be developing tendinitis in mr thumb, if thumbs have tendons. Picking up my iPad from the floor is impossible but my sweet husband is helping. Bathing left-handed from water in the sink is not going to be acceptable for long but handling a washcloth and soap is a slippery experience . Washing my hair is also impossible so a trip to a local salon was a blessing even though I was still in pretty much pain. Getting into and out of the chair must have been entertaining because I got a discount.
What would I do without my friends? One loaned me a recliner so that I finally got a full night of sleep after nearly a week on a chaise lounge that my husband and visiting daughter brought inside from the wooden deck out back.
After I got some real, not drugged or fitful, sleep I was ready to attempt dressing my self. And that's when I finally laughed out loud. Leggings don't go on without pulling and it takes more than my left arm. So thankfully my husband yanked them up. Then stepping into a tank shirt and maneuvering it up, over and around made me glad this isn't going to be blackmail fodder. Brownie points for Jeff are accruing!
